U.S. Highway 40 was closed in both directions Monday morning while Colorado State Patrol investigated the scene of a fatal accident.According to Trooper Sherri Mendez, state police were dispatched to mile marker 102 on U.S. 40 west of Hayden at 6:09 a.m. for a two-vehicle accident.The deceased is a 65-year-old female from Craig, Mendez said. There were no other injuries reported and details on what might have contributed to the accident were not known as of Monday afternoon as the incident remains under investigation.U.S. 40 was reopened at 10:41 a.m.This is the second fatal car accident report on U.S. 40 between Steamboat and Craig in less than two months. On Nov. 5, A 38-year-old man from Craig was killed in a three-car accident at mile marker 118 west of Milner as a result of icy road conditions.According to the state patrol, that crash involved the man’s passenger vehicle and a semi-truck pulling a trailer driving westbound, as well as a pickup truck pulling a trailer driving eastbound.On Dec. 18, one person was transported to the hospital after being involved in a four-vehicle accident involving a box truck rollover at mile marker 120 near Milner.
