El Cajon One dead, two others injured in East County three-vehicle crash

RANCHO SAN DIEGO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — An 18-year-old man from Alpine died and two other people were injured in a crash involving three separate vehicles in East County late Monday afternoon.

According to California Highway Patrol, the 18-year-old was driving a 2003 Nissan 350Z westbound on Dehesa Road, west of Sloane Canyon Road, around 4:10 p.m. Monday.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old man from Spring Valley was driving a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound and a 24-year-old man from El Cajon was driving a 2019 Mercedes C63 westbound, also on Dehesa Road in the same area.

For unknown reasons, the driver of the Nissan veered left, crossed over the solid, double-yellow lines and crashed into the front of the Chevrolet, according to authorities.

The Nissan, whose driver could not regain control of the vehicle, then collided into a dirt embankment and a wooden utility pole.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet also lost control and traveled into the path of the Mercedes. The Mercedes then collided with the right side of the truck, authorities said.

Authorities said the driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel as a result of his injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to Sharp Grossmont Hospital with major injuries, while the driver of the Mercedes sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.

It is unknown whether drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash, CHP stated. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
