Miguel Marquez, the Pasadena city manager, described the past 22 hours as “brutal”, adding that police officers went door to door evacuating civilians.
“Our first responders rushed to the scene. They found darkness, they found fire and they found 80mph winds,” Marquez said on Wednesday evening.
About 100,000 people are under mandatory evacuation, and 100,000 more have been warned to evacuate because they are near a danger zone.
Kathryn Barger, the LA County supervisor, urged curious onlookers to stay out of harm’s way and allow firefighters to do their job.
