RIVER RIDGE, La. — Authorities are investigating a deputy-involved shooting in River Ridge that resulted in the deaths of a mother, her 2-year-old child, and the child’s father, along with gunshot wounds to two other children.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the incident occurred early Saturday in the 1000 block of Stephen Drive. Sheriff Joe Lopinto said deputies responded to a 911 call, reportedly made by one of the children in the home.

"Hearing the child make that 911 call is pretty devastating right now, to be honest with you," Sheriff Lopinto said at an impromptu meeting with reporters on the scene.

He said, upon arrival, deputies found what appeared to be a violent domestic situation. The 2-year-old girl and the 40-year-old mother were found dead at the scene. The 46-year-old father, who allegedly produced a firearm during the encounter, was fatally shot by a deputy, Lopinto said.

Two other children, a 13-year-old girl and a 9-year-old girl, were also shot and transported by EMS to a Children's Hospital. The 9-year-old is in critical condition, according to Lopinto.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved.

Further details about the incident will be provided as they become available.
