At least 3 vehicles involved in 'major fatality accident' that shut down I-20

The Dallas County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20.

DALLAS — A multi-vehicle "major fatal accident" shut down Interstate 20 at Highway 310 in southern Dallas on Sunday morning, according to the Dallas County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office posted about the crash at 3:30 a.m. Sunday and said it happened in the eastbound lanes. TxDOT cameras showed crews on scene and smoke pluming from below the I-20 bridge at TX-310 around 2:40 a.m. Sunday morning.

WFAA sent a crew to the scene and it appeared an 18-wheeler fell from the overpass onto the service road below. There was a box truck and another truck – seemingly a pickup – that appeared to be involved, as well. The box truck had significant fire damage to the cab. The pickup truck was being towed away as WFAA arrived at the scene.

It was still unclear Sunday morning how many people died.

WFAA's crew saw lots of damage to guard rails on both sides of the I-20 overpass, and TxDOT cameras showed crews making repairs those portions of the damaged overpass at approximately 4:20 a.m.

The interstate was shut down for hours on Sunday morning and traffic was being diverted at Interstate 45, DCSO said. Lanes of I-20 reopened just before 10 a.m., officials told WFAA.
