PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — A person died and others, including police officers, were injured after two vehicles collided at the intersection of U.S. 40 and Ronald Reagan Parkway on Wednesday morning.
According to Plainfield Police Department, a suspected vehicle failed to stop after an Avon police officer attempted to stop the car. The suspected vehicle collided into another vehicle. That vehicle burst into flames upon impact.
Emergency workers were seen inspecting the charred vehicle.
Police said two occupants of that struck vehicle were injured and so were the officers on the scene helping in the crash. They went on to say there was one fatality but would not release further information.
Brandon Bendel works at a local towing company. News 8 spoke with him as he was cleaning up the debris. “We had a vehicle that caught on fire. The other one got hit in the front pretty much demolished the front end of it.”
Emergency workers were seen inspecting the charred skeleton of the vehicle.
About 40 feet from the road is burnt grass left over from the fire.
Police say two occupants of the struck vehicle were injured, and the Avon officers on the scene were also hurt while helping those in the crash.
A suspect was in custody and the case is under investigation.
The towing company said it took at an hour for them to clean up the roads, including towing those vehicles, and the intersection has reopened for drivers.
