Man who died in Rankin County crash served 20 years for killing father and stepmother

RANKIN CO., Miss. (WLBT) - The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash in Rankin County.

A press release says MHP responded to the incident at 12:20 p.m. Saturday on MS-18 near Sanctuary Drive.

According to the release, a 2009 Honda Civic was traveling north on Will Stutely Dr. when it collided with a 2019 GMC Sierra that was traveling east on MS-18.

The driver of the Sierra, 73-year-old Curtis Jones, and the passenger, 72-year-old Ruth Jones, were taken to St. Dominic’s in Jackson with unknown injuries.

The driver of the Honda Civic, 39-year-old James Williams III, died at the scene.

A family member confirmed that Williams is the same man who served 20 years in prison for killing his father and stepmother in December of 2002.

After killing them, Williams attempted to dismember the couple in order to fit them inside two Rubbermaid totes.

Their bodies were discovered in the woods near Shiloh Park in the back of a Chevrolet truck on January 6, 2003.
