FREDONIA, Kan. (KAKE) - A 38-year-old woman has died after her SUV collided with a semi and overturned in southeast Kansas on Monday.
It happened just after 8 p.m. on K-39 near Inman Road in Wilson County. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports an eastbound Ford Explorer steered into the westbound lane and struck the driver's side corner of an oncoming tractor-trailer. The SUV then went off the road to the right and overturned, coming to rest on its side in a ditch.
The driver of the Explorer, Heather Vanleeuwen of Savonburg, Kansas, was taken to a local hospital where she later died. The 34-year-old Illinois man driving the semi was not hurt.
It's unclear what caused Vanleeuwens' vehicle to go into oncoming traffic.
