Jefferson County — Two people are dead and three injured following an industrial accident at the Port Arthur LNG site under construction on South Gulfway Drive, just outside Port Arthur city limits, according to Capt. Crystal Holmes with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

She says just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, it appears scaffolding gave way and two employees fell to their deaths. Another worker fell but survived and was taken to a hospital. Two other workers who were on the scaffolding didn't fall and were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Port Arthur Fire Department and City Ambulance responded.

The Sheriff's Office has detectives on scene and OSHA will investigate.

This happened inside the plant construction site and Highway 87 remains open.

The site is under construction in the Sabine Pass area.
