The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a car vs. motorcycle that occurred at State Route 19 and the 490 on- ramp in the Town of Le Roy.
The Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center received the 9-1-1 call reporting the fatal accident at 6:46 PM. Upon arrival, patrols identified occupants of the two involved vehicles. The first vehicle involved was a white 2015 Chrysler 300 traveling southbound on State Route 19, operated by a Sara J. Stevens, age 25, of Livonia, NY. The second vehicle involved was a blue 2005 Vespa Motorcycle, operated by Duane L. Girdner, age 65, of Rochester, NY. Girdner was traveling northbound on State Route 19.
As Stevens was approaching the route 19/ 490 on-ramp intersection, she failed to stop for the stop sign. Continuing through the intersection, Stevens failed to yield to oncoming traffic, pulling out in front of Girdner.
Girdner traveling north on State Route 19, struck the rear passenger side door of Steven’s vehicle with his Vespa. The collision threw Girdner into the side of the vehicle causing serious physical injuries.
Girdner then laid pinned under his Vespa until several bystanders, LeRoy Fire, and Mercy EMS responded to the scene to administer life saving measures. Tragically, Girdner succumbed to his injuries roadside and was pronounced deceased by the Genesee County Coroner’s Office at the scene.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation at this time by the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team. Assisting at the scene were members of LeRoy Fire Department, Mercy EMS, LeRoy Police Department, and several bystanders.
