( KRON ) – One person has died and three people are injured after a Fremont apartment fire, according to the Fremont Fire Department.
At 2:53 a.m. on Sunday, the Fremont fire crew responded to the Waterstone Apartments on Bidwell Drive. Arriving fire officials said they found heavy fire conditions venting from a fourth-floor apartment unit. Four residents were trapped on a balcony. Two of the trapped individuals attempted to leap from the building, said officials.
At 3:02 a.m., the Battalion Chief arrived and took over the mission and ordered seven engines, two trucks, one Staff Captain, two Battalion Chiefs and a Division Chief.

Fremont FD said the fire was mitigated by 3:40 a.m.
The department said, “Unfortunately, despite the skilled and heroic efforts of firefighters and paramedics, one adult is deceased, one adult was transported in critical condition, one adult was transported in serious but stable condition, and one adult was transported with minor injuries.”
According to Fremont FD, all of the residents in the 30-unit building were displaced due to widespread smoke and water damage.
The Fremont Fire Department and the Fremont Police Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
The last fatality fire in Fremont was on October 14, 2024.
