Young woman from San Francisco dies at Tahoe ski resort

A 26-year-old San Francisco woman died Saturday after incurring a head injury at Palisades Tahoe ski resort, officials said.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., a skier “sustained a head injury” on terrain accessed from the KT-22 chairlift, Palisades Tahoe spokesperson Maddy Condon said in a statement.

The resort’s ski patrol team provided on-site medical care, but the skier was pronounced dead at the scene, Condon said.

The skier was identified as Ellery Curtis, according to Elise Soviar, communications manager for the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

Curtis had worked as an analyst for the California Public Utilities Commission since September, according to a LinkedIn profile that appeared to belong to her. In a statement, CPUC spokesperson Terrie Prosper said Curtis was a “valued member” of the commission and would be “deeply missed.”

“She came to the CPUC to protect the environment she cared about so deeply and was very excited about starting her career here,” Prosper said. “Our hearts go out to her family, friends, colleagues, and all who were touched by her kindness.”

No other details about the nature of the injury or its cause were immediately available.

The KT-22 chairlift , nicknamed “The Mothership,” transports skiers 2,000 feet up the mountain and provides access to challenging trails including “infamous steeps,” according to Palisades Tahoe’s website.
